Parents of a baby who died in foster care: first with the story and exclusive interview.

This story came to me from a source I’d been talking with for a year. She knew I’d show compassion to a young family who’d just been through tragedy. After speaking with the couple on a snowy day in rural Ohio, I verified their story through Athens County Children Services as well as the sheriff and county coroner’s offices.

Grandmother of a missing man speaks: Exclusive interview on discovery of his body

I’d been following the fortunes of Nelsonville, a small town in rural Ohio which seemed to have more than its fair share of crime. As a result of my reporting, which included investigating a nearby jail, this family contacted me when their grandson went missing. I followed the family’s search as they scoured the woods and trails until this story about five months later: the discovery of the man’s bones in a nearby forest.

The story was corroborated by the sheriff and county coroner’s offices.

A bullet-ridden housing estate: interview with the receiver.

An exclusive interview about a crime-ridden housing estate came after several visits to interview residents, plus calls to police and the city attorney. After months of badgering, I got inside the apartments with a senior member of the receiver’s team.

A man who negotiates cease-fires on the streets: Exclusive interview, first with the story.

After I told the story of a woman whose son was shot riding a scooter, Thell Robinson contacted me at NBC4 about the work of his organization Halt Violence. This quiet, soft-spoken man served time in prison, but now he negotiates ceasefires between rival groups on the streets of Columbus. He shared the motivations which keep him going against all odds: a desire to give back to his community, a remembrance of his ancestors, and a deep and consistent faith.
